Greetings. After over 2 months of being off air, we are back on. Back log programs will be shown as I have time. We show programs originally scheduled in December. Bear with me. Highlights include 3 sections: regional grant proposal for broadband update; regular commission meeting; and certifying election of road bond vote. In first session, Rosemary Raschella, planning coordinator for the Region VI Planning and Development Council said If grant is approved, $125,000 for Region VI, which includes Marion, Monongalia, Harrison, Preston, Taylor and Doddridge counties, will be able to do an assessment of what it would take to implement broadband internet infrastructure in the region. During the regular meeting, a request for funding from the Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association for its fifth annual Coal Miners Appreciation swap meet was granted at the meeting. Also at the meeting, Marion County Deputy Clerk Tom Antulov submitted a summary of the Oct. 7 road bond vote for the commission’s certification. A total of 4,393 Marion County residents voted in the special election, with 3,283 for the measure and 1,110 against. This total figure represents 10.899 percent of registered voters for Marion County. At the end of the meeting, commission President Ernie VanGilder said that Sept. regional jail bill had been the most expensive yet, costing the county $147,000. Highlights include resolutions on closing existing Fire and Police Pension Funds and placing all new hires under West Virginia Municipal Police Officers And Firefighters Retirement System Pursuant To The Provisions Of West Virginia Code Section §8-22a-28, Directions regarding awarding of a grant of $200,000 grant to Brownfields if successful, and petition to US Congress and president to preserve Federal Historic tax credits offered. Citizens Petitions were from Anna Bosnick and Alice Sherer of 510 Walnut on problems with bed bugs, animals, and persons, and Barry Bledsoe on sidewalks.
