Tina Shaw, MC Chamber Director Brett White, United Way Director, Dr. Bob Mild and Paige Hopkins serve as Moderators for the 5th Dancing with the Stars Program. Judges were Brian Faulkner, Miss WV Tamia Hardy, and Mariah Congedo of WVU Dance Team. Highlights include interviews with Julie Fox, Fairmont Times Publisher; Sheriff Jimmy Riffle and Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Carter on the Armored Hummel Vehicle; Cyanna Garcia doing WVU cheer, scenes of fingerprinting from FBI, discussing FBI dog on explosive discoveries, firemen discussing truck and letting children sit in the seat, and talking to a few kids and family members.

11:00     Commission: 10/18/17
Highlights include 3 sections: regional grant proposal for broadband update; regular commission meeting; and certifying election of road bond vote. In first session, Rosemary Raschella, planning coordinator for the Region VI Planning and Development Council said If grant is approved, $125,000 for Region VI, which includes Marion, Monongalia, Harrison, Preston, Taylor and Doddridge counties, will do an assessment of what it would take to implement broadband internet infrastructure in the region. During the regular meeting, a request for funding from the Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association for its fifth annual Coal Miners Appreciation swap meet was granted. Also, Marion Co. Deputy Clerk Tom Antulov submitted a summary of the Oct. 7 road bond vote for the commission's certification. A total of 4,393 Marion County residents voted in the special election, with 3,283 for the measure and 1,110 against. This total figure represents 10.899 percent of registered voters for Marion County. At the end of the meeting, commission President Ernie VanGilder said that Sept. regional jail bill had been the most expensive yet, costing the county $147,000.

11:43     City Council: 10/24/17
Highlights include resolutions on closing existing Fire and Police Pension Funds and placing all new hires under West Virginia Municipal Police Officers And Firefighters Retirement System Pursuant To The Provisions Of West Virginia Code Section §8-22a-28, Directions regarding awarding of a grant of $200,000 grant to Brownfields if successful, and petition to US Congress and president to preserve Federal Historic tax credits offered. Citizens Petitions were from Anna Bosnick and Alice Sherer of 510 Walnut on problems with bed bugs, animals, and persons, and Barry Bledsoe on sidewalks.

Highlights include comments on closing of Coal Run Hollow road from Chris Nielsen, Kate Greene, Dr Mike Schroering, and Stephanie Carter. Baxter from wheeling as a candidate introduced himself as well as the newly elected President of Fairmont State, Dr. Mirta Martin.

Highlights include comments from Lindsay Demus on sculpture Art at the park, Kip Price on Veterans Christmas Trees in court house, and Randy Elliott sharing highlights of upcoming events in Fairmont area.

Highlights include placing levy for transit authority, library, and Parks and Recreation and putting up East Marion Complex as collateral for loan to replace building torn down this fall.

This 6th Community Conversation on Substance Abuse includes interviews with CEO Michael Casdorph; Ann Hammond, WV Helpline, Peer Support and Women Director of Recovery Home at Temple United Methodist Church; Whitney Oliverio, Program Director, Josie's Hope of United Summit Center set to open in 2018; and Jo Anne McNemar, MS, PSII, Partnership for Success, Anti-Stigma Initiative. She expanded the Mayor's Youth Council which she started while on City Council to civic engaging these students in government through drug education. She also started SADD- Students Against Destructive Decision, Harrison County Dream Team and Mayor's Council on Youth Involvement in Government.
