Of Marion County Commission; Delegate Tim Manchin and Senator Roman Prezioso. Local people interviewed were: Pat Ryan of FGH Behavioral Medicine; Carol Porter- FGH Home Health Services; Shelley Lucente - Wound Center; Kaitlin Mock- Nutritionist with the Dietary Services; Many VanGilder-Health Plex; Sonja Raddish-Fairmont General Foundation; John Ridgway, intern with FGH Community Needs Assessment; Ross Martin and Bud Wilson with EMT Services for the Marion County Rescue Squad.

Main Street Fairmont’s first monthly Friday Music & Arts Series is held at Veterans Square. Those interviewed include Kate Green, Executive Director; Nancy & Doug Feasline of Gracious Grain on woodworking and baking; Quinn Edgell, etsy online marketer for Feathered Shoppe Vintage Clothing; Singers Patrick Blood and Kristen Manzo as Thistle & Tweed; Singer Kristin Federer; Scott Burcham, Owner/Painter, Deep South Recreations; Kristin Federer, singer; TG’s Bar Assistant Liz Dang to George Thomas and waitress Anna DeLong; Pictures are given of the three new businesses opened or set to open: Joe-N-Throw Co-Op by Scott Layne and West Fork Pottery by Mike; All Things Herbal by Christa Basta; and T-G’s CafĂ© or Restaurant    



8:45 TRIP TO CHARLESTON:                    10:00             03/07/14     

Seven persons went to Charleston, WV for the Greater Fairmont Council of Churches Day at the Legislature: Gary Jack, Tom Hoover, Kip Price, Elise Neal, Galen Hansen, Jessica Walker Collins and DD Meighen went.

Portions of video made were meeting with our Delegates and touring the House Chambers; DD Meighen giving the opening prayer in the Senate We met with our WV State Senators Bob Beach and Roman Prezioso, along with  State Council of Churches President Jeff Allen. Following lunch some of us went to the House Judiciary Committee and listened in on the Committee shared by Delegate Tim Manchin. Also, on the committee is Linda Longstreth. Others visited other delegates. Late in the afternoon we were afforded a visit to the Governor’s Office where we met with Fairmont native Jason Pizatella, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. We also met with Joe Garcia, Deputy Counselor in Governor’s Office. Then we came home. We want to share with some of these highlights… today

9:30    HONOR FLIGHT    30:00    05/14/14.    1:10:00         

This Honor Flight out of Clarksburg done under the auspices of Honor Flight Huntington featured 145 total people, including 92 Veterans. We show an overview from 2009 and then interview Butch Phillips and Aaron Hawkins upon their return. We show the joy at the Airport, interviewing Veteran bikers Kevin Wentz and Tim Miller and supporter Debby Layman. We watch and listen to the East Fairmont Band as the names of all veterans, guardians, and others who scrolled across the screen. Many veterans are then seen entering the hanger and until we were forced to move and quit recording, we were able to briefly talk with many of them. The next day we interviewed Asa Davison at his house. Program was assisted in being underwritten by Jerry Sabo of Say-Boy Restaurant.

Highlights include City adopting home rule proposal and Travis Blosser’s resignation from City Council. Council approved the renewal of credit by WesBanco to satisfy a portion of the city’s self-insurance requirement under the West Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act and the purchase of 211 Guffey St. for demolishing.

Commission tabled the vote on Worthington annexation,  signed a proclamation proclaiming May 2014 as Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) Month on its 100-year anniversary of the first club in Marion County, allocated $1,000 to the PACE Project, and heard from Charlie Reese.

Highlights include Frank Yann taking oath as representative for the 2nd Ward following the resignation of Travis Blosser; discussion on franchise with Time Warner and Comcast pending a new agreement because of merger; approving unopened street names on Water Street and around Palatine Park; agreeing to match $500,000 bid with $25,000 to replace dilapidated buildings in the Maple Ogden area by the Fairmont Community Partnership

A Community Participation Grant was granted:  for The Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau; $1,000 granted to the Greater Fairmont Council of Churches for Disaster Expo funds; $500 for a request for a Juneteenth event.

County commissioners denied annexation into the Town of Worthington of 43.28 acres.
