7:00:  FIRST COMMEMORATION MINER’S DAY SERVICE: Dec. 6, 2006.  On Feb 17, 2006, the WV Legislature, in response to a petition, completed legislation creating Miner’s Day to occur annually each Dec 6 “honor each and every minor, past, present and future.”  This is the first time that miners have been honored with a perpetual commemorative holiday by a state, and this will be the first year that this day will be observed. This is the service that includes comments by originator Creed Holden, House of Delegate Linda Longstreth who introduce the bill, singers Joe Cerisano and Doug McCarty and speaker, Roy Lee Cooke.

8:03: PARTNERSHIP DINNER: 
The Fairmont Community Development Partnership Yearly Banquet and Program was held Nov. 7, 2013 at the renovated Fairmont Women’s Club. Interviewed were Executive Director Bob Gribben; Joe Layman, who saved all the computer data during the McCoy Fire; and guest speaker Jason Pizatella, Deputy Chief of Staff, under Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. Dixie Yann was the Master of Ceremonies. Marcella Yaremchuk presented the Jerry Ragen Memorial Award to JP Layman, Geno Guerrieri and Ave Koren who assisted the residents when the McCoy building was destroyed by fire in April.

8:21    VETERANS BIKERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB & AUBREY STEWART: At their meeting on Nov. 2nd, founder Aaron “Moon Dog” Edison is interviewed. He gives honorary membership to 3 members of the Aubrey Stewart Project: Don King, T.J. Coleman, and Kip Price. In addition, Dr. James Garrow is introduced and later interviewed on his book, The Pink Pagoda, on his life and rescuing baby girls from China.

8:45:  PIERPONT COMMUNITY & TECHNICAL COLLEGE RIBBON CUTTING: Nov. 15 
Participants include President Doreen Larson, Todd Anderson from Senator Manchin’s office; Dot Underwood from Gov. Tomblin’s office, Chuck Warner reading a proclamation from the City and Randy Elliott reading proclamation from the County; Kate Greene of Main Street Fairmont, and WV Senator Bob Beech.

9:08: FARMINGTON NO. 9 MINERS MEMORIAL SERVICE: NOV. 17. Highlights of the 45th Anniversary memorial Service of the Farmington Mine No. 9 Disaster of Nov. 20, 1968 are observed. Jim Arbogast reads the name of the miners and an interview with Cecil Roberts spotlight the day’s event.

9:18    MISSION WV NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY: NOV. 23, 2013  
Adoptive and Foster Care Agencies and families throughout WV came together in Fairmont on the National Adoption Day. Interviewed was Stacy Moniot: WBOY and host of "Finding a Family" Series on Friday's Program.

9:30:  RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of American produces this Special film focuses on a South Dakota town, family, and individuals dealing with a murder and the issue of restorative justice

9:38:  JUDGE MICHAEL ALOI: COURTS AND COMMUNITY
Judge Michael John Aloi spoke on family, decision making, faith, listening, new drug court, and restorative justice to Greater Fairmont Council of Churches on "Courts and Community" Nov. 19, 2013 at the Gatherings at 216 Monroe St.  He spoke on being blessed & loved as a child and listening to those who have no one to love or listen to them. Rev. Roger Thrower began with song, Judge Aloi introduced, he speaks and then questions were received


10:48 CHRISTMAS MUSIC THROUGH THE YEARS:  
Music includes the best of Monongalia County Elementary Chorus of 1996, the Vincent Memorial UMC choir of 2000 singing “Silent Night” with images of Nutter Fort featured, Central UMC Church singing on the Courthouse Steps for the Christmas Program of 2006, followed by Presbyterian Choir singing at their cantata in Dec. 2010

11:04 BLACK DIAMONDS: SOUTHERN WV COAL MINE TRAVELING EXHIBIT:  
This exhibit, at Wallman Hall, presents kiosks of McDowell County Coal mining, based on the musical “Rocket Boys.”   Interviewed is Mike Rohaly, exhibit coordinator, Miniature Coal Golf Course Director, & President of Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association (NACMHA).

11:14 PALATINE SPLASH PARK:  
Marion County Commissioners award design of Palatine Splash Park to Thrasher Group on Wed., Nov. 6, at the Al Babcock Conference Room in the J. Harper Meredith Building. Charlie Reese and the 3 County Commissioners speak as well as Jim Christie and Randy Watson from the Thrasher Group.

11:57 TRIP TO HELP OUR THE FAIRMONT COMMUNITY:  
 Items are picked up and distributed to assist folks of city and County

12:00 COUNTY COMMISSION: OCT. 23.  
Highlights included the Commission authorizing the combined excess levy elections for Fairmont/Marion County Transit Authority, Parks and Recreation, and Marion County Library for May 2014.  A little more than $836,034 per fiscal year for the next four years- from July 1, 2014 to July 1, 2017- is needed to continue operating these entities. The excess levy generates more than 75 percent of the library system’s funding. The 9th Feast of the Seven Fishes was granted $4,000.  Kim Brooks, executive direc­tor of 612 MAC, requested $13,357 from the commission to help with that agency’s operating expenses.

12:28 COUNTY COMMISSION: OCT. 30  
Dr. Steve Selin, state director and professor of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Resources, Division of Forestry and Natural Resources, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the program to the Marion County Commission at its weekly meeting Wednesday.

1:22    CITY COUNCIL: OCT.  22  
Highlights include the  City Council passing two ordinances: First, the city-owned portion of Palatine Park to the Marion County Commission and the second was the transfer of the 100 block of Adams Street to the city. Both transfers require public use. Council also adopted an ordinance to approve the new contracts for the police department, which will now expire on Sept. 30, 2016. The new contracts were an extension of current contracts, with no substantive changes, Rogers said.  The city also approved the transfer of the Army Reserve Center on Mary Lou Retton Drive to the city so it can be granted over to Hope, Inc. 

2:05    CITY COUNCIL: NOV. 12 
Highlights included the first reading of an ordinance to purchase the WesBanco building on Merchant Street for $360,000. Council also approved the first reading of an automatic license plate reader to scan and photograph license plates in the City of Fairmont on one vehicle. Council accepted a $25,000 grant from the WV Development Office Participation Grant Program on behalf of the Fairmont Parks Commission for improvements to Palatine Park, and heard the first reading of a collective bargaining agreement between the city and the International Association of Firefighters


2:39    COUNTY COMMISSION: NOV 6:   
Blair Montgomery gave a presentation to the Marion County Commission about the first-ever Coal Mining Appreciation Day Swap Meet event in the area, working with the host organization, Northern Appalachian Coal Mining and Heritage Association (NACMHA).

3:11    COUNTY COMMISSION: NOV. 13.  
Highlights include approving White Hall’s annexation of 12 parcels in the Cloverdale Heights area, giving $250 each to West Fairmont Girls and East Fairmont Boys Soccer, and $500 to the Marion County Beekeepers for their April 2014 meeting as requested by Sec. Nancy Postlethwait and Pres. Ron Riley. Charlie Reese gave update on Economic Development; introduced program with Belinda Biafore called “Mayors On the Move” while Sandra Hulsey, mayor of Worthington, spoke about its successes.

4:00    CITY OF FAIRMONT ARTS & HUMANITIES AWARDS, Nov. 3, 2013. Awards presented: Blacksmith to Bob Elliott; Music to Charlie Pitrolo; Historian to Dora Kay Grubb; Theatre to Jeff Ingman; Literature to Laura Larotta; and Dance to Sophie Silnicki.  Pitrolo, Ingman, and Silnicki gave examples of their talents. Jack Hussey was the master of Ceremonies and various board members introduced the recipients.

5:20    MARION COUNTY COMMISSION: Nov. 20.  
Highlights include Charlie Reese discussing ice skating possibility and “Mayors on the Move” meeting Dec. 3. Butch Tennant shared concern on the special excess school levy of Oct. 12 not costing the county anything, because the Marion County Board of Education paid for the $90,000 costs. Larry Sipes shared thoughts. Tennant also encouraged collecting of extra coats for Penny Pincher. Program began with recognizing the Farmington Mine Disaster on Nov. 20, 1968. Chris McIntire, director of the Marion County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, shared “Files of Life” going well and public information officer Sabrina Haught has been distributing them throughout the county.  Norman Kronjaeger discussed the non road “road” at Palatine Park as a surveying problem to be resolved with the City.

6:02    Piedmont High Championship Basketball Teams of 1966 and 1974: Interviews with Coach Terry LaRue (1969-1976); 1966 Players: Ronnie Marple and Jerry Price; 1974 players Kip Price and Derek “Deke” Walker; Cheerleaders: Paula Patterson Campbell, Karen Amoroso Lease, and Sue McDowell Everett; Trainers Bill Price and Raymond Twyman; Nellie “Snap” Riley whose husband was team bus driver; Paula Boggs, Museum and Library Director; and David Coleman of Howard High School.  Thanks to Kip Price for developing the idea, making contacts, setting up interviews, and assisting in editing and production
