9:30 DANCING WITH THE STARS: Oct. 5.The MC Chamber of Commerce and the United Way joined together to launch “Dancing with the Stars” a fundraiser effort for both agencies Oct. 5th at Colebank Gym. 10 selected individuals were paired together: Sharon Swearingen and Chuck Jessup; Heather Fitzwater and Jerrod Calhoun; Mary Jo Thomas and George Levitsky; Dixie Yann and Bill Holmes; Christy Miller and Jonathan Rider. Kelsey Pape of TV 12 and Nick Fantasia served as Masters of Ceremonies. Judges interviewed were Holly Kaufman, Major Harris, and Kaitlin Gates. Choreographers appearing were Eileen and Arthur Frank, Theresa Sestito,Gabriel (Gabe) Akers, and Olivia Bowen. A special appearance from 16-year-old Fairmont native and ballerina Sophie Silnicki, the event’s featured dancer, highlighted the evening. She performed two dances for the audience: a classical piece, “Raymonda Act 2,” and a modern piece called “Gone,” which featured music from the recent film “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

A 50-year lease was signed with the DNR for a $300,000 boat dock and boat ramp project.The commission granted $300 to the Preparedness Expo, sponsored by the Greater Fairmont Council of Churches., signed a 50-year lease with the East Fairmont Athletic Foundation at $1 a year for land at the Poor Farm BMX Park to build Pony League fields, tabled appointing a member to the Marion County Health Board until the Oct. 2 meeting, and granted the request from the Town of Farmington for funding for materials for water-extension project.
