Highlights include moment of silence for Wayne Stutler, council member’s announcements, and passage of 3 first readings on Council matters. Bob Gribben suggested a New Year appraisal of abandoned or dilapidated property and Mayor Bill Burdick suggested budget consideration for a new Bellview fire station. Appointments approved for Library and Board of Zoning Appeals.

 Highlights include adopted ordnances of the city for Hardy Cellular to contract for services and built a tower near Sterling Heights, to provide for certain administrative changes to Section 24.1 of the Personnel Rules regarding Termination, to amend the Pay Plan and List of Occupational Classes to provide for an alternative pay plan and longevity pay structure for certain positions covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the United Steelworkers and the City of Fairmont, to adopt a resolution approving the terms and conditions of an Agreement between Tyler Technologies, Inc. and the City of Fairmont for new accounting software and software related services, to appoint Nicholas Cinalli to the Fairmont Parking Authority for an unexpired term to end September 30, 2013 Much discussion on responsibility of Connector

From Despair to Hope was the theme of the Marion County NAACP Marion County’s Birthday Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service of January 15, 2012 in Fairmont. Umojah Voices of Joy sang numerous songs. Those participating in the service were Pastor Robert Clay, Wesley Dobbs, Tony Jones, and John McKenney. Others participating were Deacon John Murray, Harold Barner, and Mrs. Priscilla Steed. Young Man Roe Jones gave a stirring song selection, and various youth presented biographical material from famous African-Americans. Dr. Arlene Dooley introduced her sister, Attorney Katherine “Kitty” Dooley, as the Keynote speaker. The conclusion is “We Shall Overcome.”

Other action included Application to the Commission for annexation by minor boundary adjustment from the Town of Whitehall by J.T. Hodges;  a Request for funds from the Town of Rivesville and council member Mark Dorsey to repair major water breaks, in the amount of $25,000.00;  Request for funds from Special Olympics in the amount of $1,500 for the 3rd Annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament ($1,000 approved), and the Commission Presented the Order of Intent to Adjust Various Precincts throughout Marion County Due to the 2010 Census in Order to Respect the Senatorial and Houses Districts Realignments to Comply with West Virginia Code §3-1-5. Following the ceremony the Marion County Historical Society celebrated Marion County’s birthday in Council chambers.

Interviewed are Kim Brooks, interim director and numerous volunteers John Hall, Lawrence “Scoter” brooks, Carl Harris, The Knight family, Colin Jones, and Joshua McBee. Rick Brown, co-director of Mon Youth Build, was also interviewed. Many children that shared in the day also got air time.
