This program presented as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an array of speakers and interviews held at Fairmont General Hospital on Oct. 7, 2011. Highlights show why Marion County is the fastest and first center to report election results to Charleston. Many ordinances were passed and the support of the city for the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Two of the ordinances dealt with parking. The first one gave the city manager the authority to restrict metered parking in various areas and put a two ¬hour limit on parking in the 100 and 200 blocks of Adams Street. The second ordinance increased the penalties for parking tickets, and after a third violation, the vehicle can have a boot or having it towed

Highlights included a vote on new agreement with Allied Waste and Jeff Harvey, reduction in monthly street sweeping charges, restricted parking in posted areas, accepting grant for K-9 Dog unit, 10th payment for services related to the water project, and appointment to Fairmont Urban Renewal Authority. First Reading of amending pay plan and listing of occupational classes to provide for a one time cash payment of $750 passed. Speaking to Council was Charles Hillberry on trash pickup and Dora Kay Grubb on Historical Society and Museum.

County Commission approved a new items “County Development Fund” to provide assistance to various community groups desiring assistance for special needs and projects. Revenue will come from a percentage of the video lottery.

Highlights includes "Patches," a remote-controlled talking Dalmatian to teach fire safety to children introduced by Chris McIntyre, assistant 9-11 controller who presented the case for increased 9-11 fee. CC shared in award winning plaque presented to Consol Energy, MC Parks & Recreation, and MCC for Curtisville Lake. “Chuck” Saynack represented Consol Energy, whose $150,000 check began the process. Also, Time Warner’s renewed franchise agreement with the county was approved for a 1 percent of gross sales for the next 10 years. The commission gave a $1,000 to the Marion County Rescue League for low-cost spay/neutering of animals. They also gave $500 to the Fairview Cares Community Group to help defray expenses from the first Fairview Pumpkin Festival
4:58 pm - Mammogram Digital Unit
The program at the Fairmont Women’s Club features the Press Announcement of the $500,000 Mammogram Digital Unit being purchased by Fairmont General Hospital with the support of public and governmental funding. Highlights include introductions and master of ceremonies Mary Jo Thomas, the President of the Fairmont Women’s Club and on the fundraising board of the Fairmont General Hospital Foundation Board. Speaking of her bout with cancer was Bobbie Doerfler, supporter Frank Pulice and Ron Hinkle and student Michael McCutchan whose pink “Bee the Cure” T-shirts will help raise money for the digital mammography project.
