15, 16, and 17 year-old ball players play against teams across America at Morgantown and Fairmont. We capture the thrilling 16 year old game of WV Reign vs. Maryland at Fester/Jo Retton Arena and the WV Ballers from Harrison County at WVU as they play Sewickley, Pa. AAU team. We interview legend Don Vincent of WVU and also Donnie Jones, coach of Marshall.
8:20 am - DR. MARK MANCHIN & MARION COUNTY SCHOOLS
After Marion County was denied SBA funding, the Board of Education invited Dr. Mark Manchin to Fairmont to explain why. The discussion was held at East Fairmont High School and we were there.
9:48 am - UNITED WAY LUNCHEON
Celebrating its goal of $325,000 this luncheon honored companies and Individuals who contributed. The keynote address was given by Dr. Thomas Krepel, only a few hours into his job as President of Fairmont State University.
11:00 am - FISH FEST for UNION MISSION, July 17-18, 2009
We’ll visit Palatine Park where two days of worship, praise, entertainment, games, information, and food was offered free by the Union Mission. You’ll see some 3 on 3 basketball, some singing, and many interviews with people who were working booths or selling food. Among those interviewed were Melody Groves of Bridgeport UMC for God’s special needs children, Gideons, South Ridge, Tree of Life, and Monongah Baptist Church. Other interviews were conducted with Rev. Frank Jarman of the Mission and staff, including Kris Erwin, Traci Moore, and Ryan Graben. Others who shared in the day were Operation Christmas Child, Jaysen Saab, and J.B. Miller, Minister Willie Stephens, and Pastor Terry Woodside and his TLC Ranch for homeless children and youth. A song from the closing celebration was offered.
12:00 pm - 4th FAIRMONT BIKE SHOW
The 4th Bike Show was held at River City Grill sponsored by Cycle World and River City Grill. Many people were interviewed including Ronna Carpenter and Michael Beuge, co-organizers and Jason DeFrance who is one of the owners of River City Grill. We also talked to bikers Lola Criss, Butch and Sara Summers, and Earl Smith. Andrew Horton won the kick off contest and Jamie Stackhouse sat upon a bike and posed for pictures. Mike Shaw representing Willy Gorby spoke of his life, and Traci Nicholson came to support the Marion County Group.

Eric Wells narrates this fast moving half hour program with 5 wonderful episodes: Beating the summer heat, Cooking Safely, Fresh Fruit Vouchers for low income Seniors, Safety Tips for families suffering from Dementia, and National Awards received by the State AARP for specific state wide projects.

Visit to the West Virginia Cultural Center and then to Fairmont’s Riverfront Celebration A great day was spent as we ventured to view the new West Virginia Section of History at the Cultural Center and then returned home to enjoy some of the 4th of July festivities at Palatine Park.

This unique program works with World War II veterans who want to go to Washington D.C. and see the Memorial but have never had the opportunity, the money, or a way. This national organization has a start up group in Bridgeport, WV and we talked to them and watched videos of supporters that included Sen. Robert Dole, singer Trace Adkins. We also interviewed Joan Keith, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Jim McLaughlin, Chairman Honor Flight Network from Columbus, Ohio, and Dennis Hayes of Mannington Elks.
