06:00     FRN Heroes: FRN Hero Night was celebrated April 8, 2017
Highlights included music by members of the Fairmont State Jazz Improv Ensemble: Dylan Nichlaos, Chyna Brown, Charles Shingleton, Mike Jones, Kyle Stevens, Elliott Herberger, and Logan Sinblebecker. Presenters and Awardees included Tiffany Walker Samuels and Rev. Larry and Jessica Collins; Taylor Downs, Esq. and Tim Manchin, Esq.; Shonnet Kingston and Natalie Tennant; Tincey Holloway and Diamond Brown; Dr. Rosemary Thomas Ed.D and Mary Jo Thomas. Student winners include Andrew Slusser, East Fairmont; Jake Abbot, West Fairmont, and Chloe Barber, North Marion. MC's for the evening were Marisa Matyola & Jeff Schrock

08:30     Gift of Love Food Drive:
Food Distribution to 14 agencies are shown: Mt. Sharon Free Methodist Church, Central UMC Food Pantry, Fairmont-Marion County Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Mannington, Fairview and God's Food Pantry; Teverbaugh UMC, Our Father's Breadbasket, Fairmont Soup Opera & Union Mission, Worthington Wellness, The Nest, Shepherd's Love Food Pantry, and Oakwood Road Church of Christ. In addition Misty Poe is interviewed and various comments are heard from Ed Neville and Tom Neer, volunteers at the Mannington Food Pantry, and Abby Rager of Mt. Sharon Free Methodist Church

08:46     Charleston Legislature Visit:
Greater Fairmont Council of Churches' trip to Charleston on March 28th to meet with our county legislators are shown; meeting Governor Jim Justice; talking with Fairmont native Joey Garcia, Senior Counsel for legislation and policy; and having lunch with Rev. Jeff Allen, Executive Director of the WV Council of Churches. Rev. Elise Neal of First Presbyterian gave a passionate comment on the "New Normal." Tommy Thompson drove the Fairmont/Marion County Transit bus and 8 people went.

09:17     FSU vs. NWMS at Rec Center:
Highlights of the championship Division II contest between North West Missouri State and Fairmont State University on March 25th are shown. There are comments and reactions from people, students, and staff prior to the game, at halftime, and following the contest.

Highlights include Rev. Marvin Carr playing bagpipes; the Possum Hollow String Band with Keith Long, Jimmy Robbins, Joe and Martha Cordray playing; Faith Van Schaik, MCHS volunteer; Jason Wright, AmeriCorp worker with West Augusta Historical Society; Judy Wilson, Prickett's Fort worker; Rebecca Wilt, Main St. Fairmont AmeriCorp, worker, and Betty Andrews, super volunteer with the Historical Society. Highlights of this April 8th event include comments from Shanequa Smith, Spencer Powell, and a young mother; students King and Javier share what they received from the basket; and scenes of Windmill and the baskets are presented.

10:17     New Normal: Elsie Neal:
Rev. Elsie Neal of First Presbyterian Church discusses the new normal for the classroom teacher and the education experience for today. She shares what that means to her, her children, her school, and her children teachers.

10:21     Jone Webb:
The Executive Director of Connecting Link discusses the importance of the work, and funding for this United Way Agency at the Empty Bowl Project.

10:29     Walter Cooley, Jr.
Coordinator for Work Team of the Day Report Center Work Team discusses his life, his role and position at the Day Report Center.

11:00     City Council: 03/28/17
Highlights included a First Reading for sick and accrued sick leave for Non-Union And Unrepresented Employees; also, approved leave, personal rules and regulations for Non-Union And Unrepresented Employees. Other ordinances adopted were easements, rezoning at the High Tech park to allow Life UMC to have a church, to set aside money not to exceed $55,000 to demolish homes at 712 Locust Avenue and 914 Hawthorne Street, and to apply for a Development Grant To Fund, In Part, The Preservation Of The Terra Cotta Masonry Façade Of The Masonic Temple

12:37     City Council: 04/11/17
Highlights include a proposed Police pay and retirement plan for new hires that would be 8% less than the present plan. Speaking against were Police officers, Chief Steve Shines, Sergeant David McGlone, and Officer Thad Hall. Council members tabled the ordinance until further discussion. Kristin Rife, Executive Director, OIC, also spoke under citizens' petition. Life UMC received approval to locate to the High Tech Park as a church due to revised ordinance of companies located there. Various public hearings were approved that will involve increases on permits and building items.

01:52     County Commission: 03/22/17
Highlights include request from Carolina Improvement Association and Truly Lemley for funds to improve the field; reports from Steven D. Haning, Commercial Insurance and Steve Rawlings, Director of Operations: wvcrp West Virginia Counties Risk Pool, on options for County employees and the Commission.

Highlights include Veterans honoring Judy Wilson and a Proclamation for Fair Housing Month.

02:57     County Commission: 04/19/17
Highlights include setting the levy rates for the upcoming elections; a report from Lloyd White on health issues affecting Marion County; report from Thrasher on Boat Dock and Ramp Completion schedule.

03:29     Delegates Linda Longstreth, Guy Ward:
These 2 House of Delegates member discuss politics and more as part of reviewing the 2017 Legislative session.

04:00     Mike Caputo:
Delegate Mike Caputo talks about the good, bad, and ugly in dealing with the 2017 legislative Session.

04:17     Senator Roman Prezioso & Bob Beach: 04/16/17
The two Senators discuss the 2017 Session. Comments focus on the budget and major legislation bills, while focusing on the policies and philosophy of the legislators.

04:31     Guitars for Veterans: 04/20/17
A new program every Tuesday and Thursday at Wallman Hall combines Veterans, primarily with PTSD, with guitar playing under FSU School of Fine Arts. Billy Trivett, Chapter Organizer, approached Dr. Bob Mild, Fine Arts Chairman of FSU, about this program. Brian Wright, Temporary Assistant Professor of Music, helped with the coordination. Kyle Stevens, FSU Student Instructor and WV National Guard, assists with the program also, People who comment of the program are Fred Richards, Sharon Davis, Tom Willis. A Festival will be held May 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Wallman Hall Theatre.

04:40     SAMSHA - Rural Area Health Problems: 04/20/17:
Doing Treatment & Recovery Support in Rural & Frontier Communities: About 46.2 million people in the United States (14 percent of the population) lived in non-metropolitan (rural) communities in 2015. The nation's rural and frontier communities face some challenges when addressing behavioral health conditions and gaining access to treatment and recovery services-including an insufficient number of specialist providers. However, these communities have developed and applied creative approaches to provide access to treatment and recovery supports for residents of rural and frontier communities. Panelists will discuss these issues, and review the challenges faced. They also address the special considerations of Native American/American Indian communities in rural areas. One of the panelists is Mary Aldred Crouch, Manager of Substance Abuse Treatment Service: Cabin Creek Health System: President Elect of the WV Association of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Counseling, Milton.

Award-winning "WVU News" program is produced by students at WVU's College of Media. It" airs statewide on WVPBS as part of "Campus Connection." See it twice: from 5:20-5:35 and from 5:35-5:50.
