The Civil and Human Rights efforts of A. James Manchin is portrayed in this hour documentary.  3 areas of accomplishments are shown: His 1949 Legislation, campaigning for John F. Kennedy in 1960, and State Director of the Farmers Home Administration. Comments from family, co-workers, and recipients of his efforts are offered.  Included among  the interviews are wife Stella and son Mark; nephews U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III and Delegate Tim Manchin; delegate Mike Caputo; co-worker Ned Poe with FHA; and former Farmington resident “Moonie” Suggs and present Rachel resident Betty Napalo. A culmination of Pictures, videos and oral history are presented from the WV Cultural and History Center, the Farmers Home Administration, the John Kennedy  and Harry Truman Presidential Library, as well as the Manchin family and Emily McDowell.

Ordinance adopted to purchase 7.84 acres from Norfolk Southern Railway Comp.   for $15,500 to stabilize Merchant Street business community, recreation and riverfront development. Second reading of an ordinance authorizing the refunding of the Waterworks Refunding Revenue Bonds was approved. There was discussion concerning Time Warner and Comcast cabling of Fairmont and what, if anything can be done to get local TV on Comcast.

The game between Life United Methodist Church (Faith United Methodist Church Campus) and Hagan Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Church in Hagan, WV Monongalia County will be shown for the championship, won by Life United Methodist Church (Faith Campus) 48-43.

Highlights include a Budget Revision in the Dog Warden Line to provide to allocation to the Marion County Humane Society and Rescue. Request for funds from Marion County Master Gardeners for

$3000 and the Marion County Project Graduation for $2,000 were heard and approved. Renee Verbanic shared asked for funds to support Communities of Shalom.



5:50  CREED HOLDEN 1921 PICTURES               03/21/12       9:50

Creed Holden redid pictures from a 1921 album of Monongahela Bridge Spring Pictures prior to Memorial Day Dedication. These pictures offer a rare glimpse into the life of Fairmont in 1921. Over 50 pictures are used from Creed’s collection of pictures probably taken by or hired out by the Concrete Steel Engineering Company, Inc.
