7:00 am - Christmas Toy Shop
Give Away sponsored by Fairmont Times West Virginian, Church at Fairmont, Family Resource Network, County Commission and Greater Fairmont Council of Churches, features numerous interviews and scenes of both the preparation and distribution of toys on November 27, 2010. A Special feature is a testimony by Rev. Mary Ellen Finegan describing her family life at Christmas after her mother was killed in an automobile accident.

8:27 am - Feast of 7 Fishes, Shoe Give Away at First Presbyterian & Historical Society Visit
Highlights of December 11, 2011 features these 3 events: (1) First Presbyterian give away of over 450 shoes to needy children in Marion County. Interviews with the pastor, volunteers, and recipients are featured;(2) Quick visit to the Marion County Historical Society features their open house with refreshments and books; (3) Feast of the Seven Fishes features interviews with Vera Sansalone, Lou Spadafore, John Kenco, Kevin Smith, Fran Perry, Terry Buretz, Debbie Mann, Elijah Little, Todd Hall, Paul Donato, Jay Mahoney, and Bob Tinnell among others. The Entertainment is presented by Florence Chico Cann Chorus, 5 Men named Moe, and Ott Meale and Sam Manno. Nice scenes of the visitors and the Cooking School are offered.

9:26 am - United Way Dance & Lights at Morris Park
Special Fund Raiser for United Way is featured in 2 programs: The Oldies Dance at the Elks Club and the Christmas Lights at Morris Park sponsored by South Fairmont Rotary Club. The first program features dancing and music in the dimly lit ballroom of the Elks Club while the second part features all the sights and sounds at Morris Park with lights sponsored by various persons, agencies, and organizations to benefit United Way.

9:45 am - Tim Braddy: American Idol in Concert at Central Christian Church
This exciting musical program features the smooth voice of American Idol Tim Braddy who came to Fairmont to perform in concert with Brooks Parker along with members and friends of Central Christian (Disciples of Christ) choir. The graduate of Belmont School of Music brings a sense of joy and enthusiasm with great music.

11:00 am - Vocal Tapestry Christmas Show at Trinity Assembly of God
The concert is presented at Trinity Assembly by the famed Vocal Tapestry group under the direction of Doug Bunner. Barbara Sullivan is the pianist and Ruth Brooks is the flutist. Selections include Joy in the Morning, Prayer of Restoration, Comfort Me, O Gentle Savior, In the Quiet Hour, Jesus at Your Name, In This Holy Place, A Jubilant Song, Hymn of Promise, In the Garden, Blessed Assurance, and Here I Am Lord. The second part includes Deck the Halls, Carol of the Bells, Candlelight Carol, Angel’s Carol, Christmas Lullaby, What Sweeter Music, Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy, And the Glory of the Lord, Silent Night, and Hallelujah Chorus.

12:25 pm - City Council
Highlights are Subdivision Regulations Of Fairmont City Code, Part Thirteen, Planning And Zoning Code to Provide a Procedure For Filing And Review Of Minor Subdivisions; Mutual Aid And Memorandum Of Understanding Agreement By, Between And Among parties To The West Virginia Region 2 Maritime Task Force; Credit Card Program for City Officials, and appointments to the Fm’t Planning Commission, Sanitary Sewer Board, and Transit Authority.

1:20 pm - Life of Fuzzy Knight
The life of Fuzzy Knight (1904-1976) is traced with the assistance of historian and narrator George Ramsey. This most famous Fairmonter is remembered from his roots on Ridgeley Avenue through Fairmont High School, West Virginia University and Hollywood. Interspersed are highlights from his acting career with clips from over 25 films as he starred with notable persons such as John Barrymore, John Wayne, Mae West, and others.

3:00 pm - Secretary of State 2010 Review - Natalie Tennant
The year in review is narrated by WV Secretary of State Natalie Tennant. Graphics are used to emphasize various events during the year. Videos are shown on the highlights of the primary and general elections, the transitions in government, and use of the internet to promote and educate the public on the Secretary of State’s office.

4:00 pm - Fairmont City Council
Highlights of this Council Meeting is the final meeting of Mayor Matt Delligatti. He receives honors, a framed picture and a plaque. A special interview follows as he highlights his time as a Council Member and then as Mayor.

4:43 pm - Consumer News
Highlights include Rocket Training for Children and Youth, plus many oddities of the Christmas Season. This program is designed for your health, happiness, and wholeness.

4:52 pm - First Presbyterian Cantata
Directed by John Morrison, this cantata “Rejoice Believers!”by John E. Coats, features Dorothy Skidmore on flute and Bill Sadler as narrator. Selections include “Rejoice Believers!, Good Christian Friends Rejoice, My Soul Praises the Lord (Susan Diserio, soloist), O Little Town of Bethlehem, Bethlehem Rejoice Tonight, Every Time I Hear His Name (Don and Kim Trisel, duet), While Shepherds Watched, Follow the Star, and Finale.”

5:27 pm - Prickett’s Fort Christmas Marketplace
At Prickett’s Fort music and exhibitors are on display as the best of Christmas is featured in their Marketplace program in the exhibit hall. We were unable to visit inside the Fort, but shows are presenters Michael Greenstein (book binder), Dave Heldreth (bird carver), Burl Toothman (wood maker and carver), Ulrika Browning (wood carvings), David Houser (stained glass), Chaz Barrow (Jewelry from recycled newspapers), and singers Almost a Song performing “Camp Meeting of the 4th of July and 5 cents.” An interview with executive director Melissa May is conducted.

News focuses on the top ten stories of 2010 in the Council of Churches. 10: UNIQUE MINISTRIES AMONG CHURCHES IN THE COUNCIL. Some examples: 450 Shoe Give Away at First Presbyterian; Food Pantry at Central United Methodist; Free Give Away at the Baptist Temple, and special music programs at Central Christian (Disciples of Christ); (9) WORK TEAMS TO KATRINA AND SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA. Deacon David Lester has done an excellent job of yearly organizing these work team efforts over Christmas and in the summer; (8) CROP WALK CELEBRATING 38 YEARS OF SERVICE. Through efforts of Rev. Scott Ingleton and treasurership of Rev. Holley Faulkner, this event draws walkers and supporters of world hunger; (7) SPECIAL WORSHIP SERVICES: HAITI RECOVERY & BIG CREEK MINE DISASTER. Organized through efforts of Rev. Michael Richards, these services offered people a chance to come together to worship, to mourn, to support, and to pray for these situations; (6) CHURCH LEAGUE BASKETBALL CELEBRATING 65 YEARS OF SERVICE. In 2010 Sharon Buonaiuto spearheaded the Senior Division and Don Downs the Junior Division. Games were played at the Rec Center at Fairmont State and Central Christian (Disciples of Christ). It was a very good season in a transitional year; (5) SCOPE OF SPIRITUAL INVOLVEMENT IN THE FAIRMONT AREA: Weekly Prayer at County Commission Meeting with the Church at Fairmont; Bi-Weekly Prayers for City Council; and weekly Thursday Worship at the John Manchin Health Care Center; (4)MEDIA PRESENTATIONS ON TV19 WITH OVER 750 PROGRAMS, NOW IN THE FOURTH YEAR OF 24 HOUR PROGRAMMING, highlighting the best in Education, Enlightenment, Enrichment and Entertainment; (3)UNITED WAY SUPPORT FOR THE “99 AND 1” CAMPAIGN. It was the most money raised by local churches. Much support came from Non Council Churches, with Central UMC leading the way; (2) SUCCESS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE CHRISTMAS TOY SHOP GIVEAWAY ON “BLACK FRIDAY” NOV. 27, 2010. Those Partnerships were with the Church at Fairmont; the Times West Virginian, Family Resource Network, Marion County Commission, and Board of Education; (1) DEALING WITH RACISM IN FAIRMONT & THE COUNTY. The event chosen was a reunion of the 1954 football team of the all black Dunbar High School and all white West Fairmont team that played the first black-white game in the state. The Marion County Board of Education was very helpful in proclaiming this event as part of “Cultural Diversity Week.”

WVU students originate, write, and produce this 15 minute professional news program that is shown Sundays on WWVU-TV and then daily on channel 19. Through the efforts of Gina Dahlia, this production has captured national attention while being awarded the top news program in America among all Universities and Colleges. The Show constantly relates West Virginia University to the Morgantown community.

Soloists include Carolyn Sheets and Bob Cover. Selections include “Of the Father’s Love Begotten (Bob Cover, soloist), Journey to Bethlehem, In Bethlehem this Night, Is He (Carolyn Sheets, soloist), The Shepherds Rejoice, and He is the King.” Congregational Singing is included as well as an interview with Michael and Beth Elyard.
