An interview I did in 2004 with a special hero Rev. Donal “Jack” Squires. This year’s Chamber of Commerce created a Lifetime Achievement Award in his memory and I was humbled to receive it. This is my way of saying thanks to him and to the Chamber.

This monthly program features highlights of the Fairmont Marion Transit Authority. Today, we visit with John Urso who discusses the “Curse Jar” and how it turned into an “angel tree.” Ron Turner talks about his love of bus driving and the recognition of being an “everyday” hero. John Pace talks about being a Senior Aide. George Levitsky takes us on a tour of the newly enlarged Transit Authority complex and explains all the changes and the benefits to the citizens of Marion County

9:20 am - HISTORICAL SOCIETY 100th CELEBRATION
As part of the Feast of the Seven Fishes the Marion County Historical Society observed its 100th Celebration. Special speakers included Dr. Anderson from the WV Historical Society, Blair Montgomery of the Pierpont Community and Technical College, D. Max Francis of the Community Endowment Fund, Dr. Jim Coleman and Elizabeth Swiger on funding the Foundation, Dora Kay Grubb, and JoAnn Lough. Senator Prezioso represented the Governor and Mr. Joe Reynolds represented the County Delegates. Rusty Elliott represented the County Commissioners and Council members Warner and Smith represented the City.

Veterans from Marion and beyond are honored at East Fairmont High School and share their stories with students. Veterans include Patrick Ferrell, Iraq; Kenneth Waddell, Korea; George Fisher, Vietnam; “Libby” Stout, WW II Women’s Army Corp; and George Judy, WW II. Also shown are the East Fairmont High School Band honoring the students; Lenny Hannigan, General Manager of Time Warner; Mrs. Tracey Linn, social science teacher; David Nuzum, Principal of EFHS; Kayla Pomp and Paris Winfrey, Jr, students at East Fairmont High School. The last session of the Marion Commission for this year is held. A special ceremony is given to Alan Parks. Randy Elliott then shares the contributions Parks has made as a commissioner. He then discusses the role of the Marion County Commission with the Northern WV Regional Airport at Bridgeport which Marion County jointly owns

Most of the Marion County Candidates elected to public office were sworn in on Wed., Dec. 17th at the Court House. Even though some swearing ins were ceremonial, this well attended event featured comments by newly elected Supreme Court Justice Menis Ketchum and Secretary of State Natalie Tennant. John Perdue speaks briefly. My mistake in filming failed to capture the swearing in of Delegate Longstreth and Caputo.

People interviewed were John Bonasso, Sue Carpenter, Julie Boone, and Deborah Dooley. Dwight Snodgrass, Transit Authority Driver, is interviewed.

Gina Dahlia discusses her documentary she created, wrote, produced, and edited, called “The Monongah Heroine.” This film tells the untold story of the women affected by the Monongah Mine Tragedy of 1907. It has been shown of West Virginia Public Education twice, but this is the first viewing on Public Access. Gina is also the producer of WVU News, working with students producing news stories that are also shown on Public Television each Sunday afternoon. This makes a good addition to channel 19
