May 30, 2008 at Robert C. Byrd High School to benefit American Cancer Society for former R-W coach Doug Hogue. - Many Fairmonters came from Clarksburg and attended these two schools which ended their rivalry 17 years ago in merger. In a unique and special setting with over 4,000 people attending, players and students gathered to play an alumni basketball game. But it was not just a normal game. It benefited the American Cancer Society and honored Mrs. Janice Hogue, beloved wife of former R-W coach Doug Hogue, who died of cancer March 16, 2008. Her husband, now principal of W-I Middle School, is now battling cancer himself. All the players who came to play and honor Coach Hogue and support the American Cancer Society will bring tears of sorrow and yet expressions of gratitude to those who view the program. Those attending but not playing were Clayce Kisbaugh, great guard with Hot Rod Hundley on WVU’s basketball team in the early 50’s; Jeff Schneider, W-I and Virginia Tech’s All-American. He is the only player in WV Basketball History to be voted state player of the year twice. Names that might be familiar include Bob Ferrell, the leading scorer in the nation at one time with Davis & Elkins; Jim Crutchfield, basketball coach at West Liberty, Chris George who has the all time football receiving record in the nation at Glenville State, and Chris Meighen, who played both at Fairmont and in Clarksburg and then completed his career at University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
